Fall 2006 Design Project Criteria

Minimum Requirements

  • State purpose of structure (hospital, office, retail, hotel, etc)
  • State type of structure (concrete, steel, hybrid)
  • Restrictions and requirements (lot size, elevation changes)
  • Design Criterion used (wind? flood? rain? snow? earthquake?)
  • Do design check (specify code used) and try to have stress ratio as close to 0.8-0.99 as possible. Do not overdesign.
  • Tabulate results for selected members: stresses, moments, shear, displacements, etc. If a file is generated for the results, use it as an appendix to the report.

Improvement from basic grade

  • As in the case of competitive bidding, your design would be compared relative to others.
  • Creativity is graded from 1 to 10 points. 1 for a plain "Box" and 10 for something more realistic.
