nPolystyrene like polyethylene is used in household
products.
nPolystyrene
may be expanded into a foam to make styrofoam.
nPolystyrene is
similar to PVC except that the Cl is replaced by a benzene ring.

• The foam cups and plates are polystyrene. There are concerns about
the solid waste generated by polystyrene cups and food containers. It may be
recycled.

•The term Styrofoam is actually a trademark of a product made by Dow
Chemical and another name is expandable polystyrene.

• Polystyrene has a relatively low melting temperature which limits it
application to cold or low temperature usage. Food cannot be microwave in
polystyrene. It is the cheapest
polymer by weight which accounts for its widespread usage.
